Study of waveguide crosstalk in silicon photonics integrated circuits
Silicon photonics is going trough a terrific expansion driven by several applications, from chip wiring to integrated sensors and telecommunications. Some applications, e.g. intra and inter chip connections and sensing, require long parallel waveguides for wiring or for connecting grating couplers (GCs) to devices situated in sensing micro-channels. In well packed photonics chips there are ofte...
متن کاملLow-loss demonstration and refined characterization of silicon arrayed waveguide gratings in the near-infrared.
A resonator is characterized with two cascaded arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) in a ring formation. From this structure, the on-chip transmittance of a single AWG is extracted, independent of coupling efficiency. It provides improved measurement accuracy, which is essential for developing AWGs with extremely low loss. Previous methods normalize the off-chip AWG transmittance to that of a refe...
متن کاملLaser erasable implanted gratings for integrated silicon photonics.
In this work we experimentally demonstrate laser erasable germanium implanted Bragg gratings in SOI. Bragg gratings are formed in a silicon waveguide by ion implantation induced amorphization, and are subsequently erased by a contained laser thermal treatment process. An extinction ratio up to 24dB has been demonstrated in transmission for the fabricated implanted Bragg gratings with lengths up...
متن کاملSilicon arrayed waveguide gratings at 2.0-μm wavelength characterized with an on-chip resonator.
Low-loss arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) are demonstrated at a 2.0-μm wavelength. These devices promote rapidly developing photonic applications, supported by the recent development of mid-infrared lasers integrated on silicon (Si). Multi-spectral photonic integrated circuits at 2.0-μm are envisioned since the AWGs are fabricated with the 500-nm-thick Si-on-insulator platform compatible with ...
